Customers Site Collection

Local Recycling Centre

Rubbish and recyclables collected from customers sites by our low emission Euro 6 Volvo trucks are then delivered to our local recycling centre to be processed in our material recycling facility. The waste gets tipped out our state-of-the-art facility where we recycle over 90% of waste. Because of our high rates of recycling, we help our customers reduce their waste disposal cost by reducing disposal at landfill sites. All of our vehicles are legally compliant under our waste carriers licence.

Material Recycling Facility

Mechanical Trommel Screen

To maximise our rates of recycling the materials sent to our recycling facilities pass through a fully integrated mechanical trommel screen. The trommel, also known as a rotary screen, is a machine used to separate materials of different sizes and types. By removing the small parts in the rubbish, a large proportion of the weight is removed, and the waste becomes much easier to handle. The size of apertures predetermines the size of the fines removed in the trommel drum.

Trommel for Waste Separation

Waste Picking Line

The next step of segregation is the picking line. The picking line is where the remaining materials that are too big to be separated by the trommel. During this stage of the process, the larger materials are divided into their respective categories and placed into bays for further processing. The materials are split up into bottles, aluminium can, cardboard, and plastics while the ferrous metals are collected magnetically. Our state-of-the-art equipment and experienced staff results in high recycling rates.

Transported for Recycling

Once the different types of waste and recyclables are baled, they are loaded on to HGVs to be sent for final processing at another site. Once delivered the materials (e.g. plastics, wood, cardboard, paper, metals) are turned back into usable materials for future use.

The Recycling Process

Different materials have different recycling processes. Still, in general, the recyclables get taken to a recycling plant and separated into types and grades for the final stage of the recycling process either in the UK or overseas. Recycling in the UK produces many high-quality products. All of the newsprint manufactured here in the UK is now made from 100% recycled paper. Over 80% of the glass collected for recycling is used in the UK, the majority of it to make new glass bottles and jars. There is a continually increasing range of quality products that are made in the UK from our recycling.

Waste to Energy (WtE)

While reducing waste by reusing and recycling is the preferred and more sustainable option, unfortunately, not all waste can be recycled. Waste-to-energy, also called bioenergy, is another opportunity for reducing the amount of waste being sent to landfill sites. Refuse derived fuel, and solid recovered fuel involves the process of generating energy in the form of electricity or heat from waste. It is mostly made up of municipal waste consisting of suitable components such as biodegradable waste and plastic.
