Which types of waste can I put in My Skip?
We provide waste management and recycling services for all types of waste. However, the types of waste that can be put in a skip will vary depending on the skip you hire and the services you or your business require. Due to health and safety and waste regulations, certain types of waste require specialist services, such as hazardous waste, WEEE and waste containing POPs.
Knowing what can and cannot go in a skip is important. Suppose you fill it up with items that are not appropriate for a skip. In that case, you could face financial penalties and even be refused collection until the prohibited waste is removed.
Most household waste is considered general waste and is allowed in your skip. For example, if you're doing some DIY work at home, in most cases, you'll be able to put your waste in the skip.
Some examples of common types of waste that can be disposed of in a skip include:
- Household and commercial general waste
- Garden waste, such as soil, leaves, branches, and grass clippings
- Construction waste such as bricks, concrete, tiles, and wood
- Mixed recyclable waste such as paper, cardboard, and plastic bottles
The types of waste that are not permitted to be disposed of in a skip due to environmental and safety regulations include:
- Hazardous waste such as asbestos, batteries, and chemicals
- Electronic waste such as televisions, computers, and mobile phones
- Clinical waste, such as medical sharps and human or animal tissue
- Fridges and freezers
- Tyres
- Gas bottles
- Paint tins (unless they are empty and dried out)
