Local Recycling Centre

Rubbish and recyclables collected from customers sites by our low emission Euro 6 Volvo trucks are then delivered to our local recycling centre to be processed in our material recycling facility.

The waste gets tipped at our state-of-the-art facility, where we recycle over 90% of the materials that we collect from you.

Because of our high recycling rates, we help you reduce waste disposal costs by preventing disposal at landfill sites. Aiming towards zero landfill means we can lower costs significantly.

Mechanical Trommel Screen

To maximise our recycling rates, the materials delivered to our waste transfer station are then sent through our recycling facilities. The materials pass through a fully integrated mechanical trommel screen.

The trommel, also known as a rotary screen, is a machine used to separate materials of different sizes and types. By removing the small parts in the rubbish, a large proportion of the weight is removed, and the waste becomes much easier to handle to ensure we consistently achieve high recycling rates.

Waste Picking Line

The next step of segregation is the picking line. The picking line is where the remaining materials are too big to be separated by the trommel.

The larger materials are divided into their respective categories and placed into bays for further processing during this stage. The materials are split up into bottles, aluminium cans, cardboard, paper and plastics, while the ferrous metals are collected magnetically.

Transported for Recycling

Once the different types of waste and recyclables are baled, they are loaded onto HGVs for final processing at another site where the materials (e.g. plastics, wood, cardboard, paper, metals) are turned back into usable materials for future use.

The Recycling Process

In general, the recyclables are sent to a recycling plant and separated into types and grades for the final stage of the recycling process.

Recycling in the UK produces many high-quality products. All of the newsprint manufactured here in the UK is now made from 100% recycled paper. Over 80% of the glass collected for recycling is used in the UK; the majority of it makes new glass bottles and jars. There is a continually increasing range of quality products that are made in the UK from our recycling.

Waste to Energy (WtE)

While reducing waste, reusing material, and recycling are the preferred and more sustainable options. Unfortunately, not all waste can be recycled. Waste-to-energy, also known as bioenergy, is another opportunity to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill sites.

Refuse derived fuel and solid recovered fuel involves generating energy in the form of electricity or heat from waste. It is mostly made up of municipal waste consisting of suitable components such as biodegradable waste and plastic.
